It's really very simple
Mind, I'm just meatballing the wiring, so it looks really nasty. Works, though. I guess that I'll have to run this through Eagle and do a PCB of this when I get it to working prettily.

it uses an L293D, which is pin-compatible with your chip (i keep meaning to update the wiki to the one you're using.)
anyway, theres some example code on the wiki on how to use it to drive stepper motors with 2 wires (at the very bottom): http://make.rrrf.org/dcmd
Not really. I'm just focussed on getting a stable xyz cartesian robot running that is really, really simple to put together.
I just want to print some stuff now that Chris (nophead) has shown us how. :-D
